Who qualifies for the $1,000 deposit?
Children must meet all of these requirements:
-
Be a U.S. citizen with a valid Social Security number.
-
Be born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028.
-
Have a Trump Account opened before the year they turn 18.
Only children born during this four-year window are eligible for the one-time $1,000 Treasury contribution.
All U.S. children under 18 can open a Trump Account, but older children do not receive the government seed money.
How to open a Trump Account
Parents or guardians can open an account through:
-
The official Trump Accounts portal.
-
Participating brokerage platforms such as Charles Schwab, Fidelity and other approved providers.
To receive the $1,000 government deposit, most families must file IRS Form 4547 electronically through the IRS Trump Accounts page. The form elects the pilot program payment for an eligible child.
Contribution limits and rules
After the account is opened:
-
Parents, relatives, friends and employers may contribute up to $5,000 per year in total.
-
Employer pre-tax contributions are limited to $2,500 annually under current rules.
-
The $1,000 Treasury deposit does not count toward the $5,000 annual limit.
Funds must be invested in eligible investments, typically low-cost index funds or ETFs that track U.S. equity markets, such as the S&P 500.
When can the money be used?
At age 18, the account transfers to the child, who may:
-
Keep the account invested for retirement.
-
Withdraw funds for qualified purposes such as higher education or a first-time home purchase, subject to traditional IRA-style tax rules.
Early withdrawals for non-qualified expenses may trigger taxes and penalties.
Why families are signing up
Supporters say Trump Accounts can help democratize stock ownership and give every child a financial foundation.
Philanthropists such as Michael and Susan Dell have pledged billions to help fund accounts for millions of children.
As of mid-2026, millions of children have already been enrolled.
Bottom line
If your child was born between 2025 and 2028 and is a U.S. citizen, you may be eligible for a $1,000 government deposit by opening a Trump Account and filing Form 4547. Visit trumpaccounts.gov or speak with a participating brokerage to get started.
